23/1/2010Road Closure?
I noticed today, signs at the bottom of Kelly estate and Meigle letting us know about future roadworks on the A78{31/1/10}. The signs also say that the road will be closed. That's gonna' be just feckin' great if it's true!

Thanks Archie. Scottish Water says the following on their website:
Scottish Water is advising motorists that the A78 in Skelmorlie, North Ayrshire is to be temporarily closed on Sunday January 31 to allow a damaged section of road to be repaired.
A short stretch of Shore Road in Skelmorlie, near its junction with Eglinton Terrace, will be closed in both directions from 7am until midnight on Sunday January 31 to allow contractors for Scottish Water to reinstate the road, which was damaged as a result of a burst water main before Christmas.
The section of road was temporarily closed to allow the burst main to be repaired on December 24. When the repair was completed the road closure was lifted but we were unable to complete the reinstatement work because of adverse weather conditions and one lane remained closed with traffic management in place.
The continuation of the adverse weather conditions until recently, and the high volume of burst mains that Scottish Water and our contractors have been dealing with throughout Scotland as a result of the weather, have prevented us from carrying out the outstanding reinstatement work until now.
During the road closure diversions will be in operation from the A78 at Skelmorlie via Largs along the A760 to Kilbirnie, the A737 to Johnstone, the A761 to Port Glasgow and the A8 and A78 through Greenock to Skelmorlie and via the same route in the opposite direction.
- I dig it, but why put the 'Road Closed' sign at the far South end beyond where both Eglinton Terrace AND Castle Road join the A78? Can I blame Cheryl Jarvie, or is it the Gas Board she works for?
- In other words an important main road in a little backwater in Ayrshire has less of a priority than some leaks elsewhere, looks like I will just have to cancel this Sunday.
- The cross is to be closed between 7.00am and 3.00pm for new road marking, they're having a laugh. Will be interesting to see where the high school kids will get picked up, and how people will get to work if they can't get out of Innes Park Road. Has there been any other notification of these works other than a letter in the shop window?
- Oh and that is to happen tomorrow, Tuesday 2nd Feb.
- how did the road closure go then ? all nicely organised ?
- So far The Cross area hasn't been closed, however the work trucks are around and it looks like various areas are having new white lines etc.
- Great to see the roads dept doing something in Skelmorlie, so that will be it as far as funding on roads for the next decade.
- Apparently a few people called the number on the letter with no result. Whoever they spoke to did not know anything about it. The comment was then made 'it was just a badly worded letter'. Once again major panic over nothing.
- And here we were grumbling about NAC and they had gone out and bought a can of paint for us. I feel terrible now. Do you think it might have been a hoax Billie? I mean I'm down here in England so I suppose it must have been real.
- Come to think of it.... Is it not Strathclyde Regional Council who deal with the roads? Can I stop feeling guilty now?
- Local opinion had it that it was a hoax over the weekend, however some of the kids felt let down that the road was open and therefor they had to go to school. Nice to see the 20's plenty signs in Innes Park Road, it was a much supported topic in the vicinity.
- Robert; You are awful, but I like you.
